Today we're venturing out into an oil field or an air force base or...some other kind of rural nonsense. To a place I've actually considered visiting, and maybe even moving to. There's not a whole lot in North Dakota except drunk farm hands and child abusers. So maybe I'll stay in the desert.

Today's episode isn't about a state, or the failures of the justice system...although there is a pretty big one of those in here. It's about the worst kind of murderers. One of the most "white robes and torches" states you'll ever set foot in. I could have done an entire episode on civil war era executions, but it went a completely different direction. This one... Will probably swing you toward the pro-death penalty side. It was bad.

Of the 50 states in the US, 23 of them have outright abolished the death penalty. Three others have a moratorium on it. While I personally believe it should be reinstated everywhere and kept as an option, many politicians disagree and have decided to take it off the table entirely. On today's episode, we're looking at the last people executed in states where capital punishment has been abolished.

Ah, the east coast...a librarytarian paradise, according to some. Lax gun laws, no state income tax, live free or die. Unless, of course, your idea of "living free" is murdering innocent people. Despite the death penalty being abolished here, New Hampshire has one man currently on death row. Explain that one.

Today we're taking a trip just a couple miles west of my hometown, to the place where everything sinful is perfectly legal. Nevada has more people on death row than almost anywhere else I've covered so far, but their number of actual executions in modern times is...surprisingly low.
